Pocketless

Pocketless is a bag for creative entrepreneurs with a flexible schedule, to help regain the physical border between work and leisure.

Especially since the pandemic and overpopulation with more people working from home and down-sized offices, creative solution are needed. This blur between work and leisure can be hard for people to take distance from one or the other, leading to unproductive or stressful moments. Pocketless forces you to surround yourself with working tools. By unfolding the bag you are required to take out all items, as when closing, all items must be packed. Creating a bigger difference with leisure when working from different locations.

Additionally, Pocketless is made from old event banners from WerkWarenHuis for a direct connection between the hybrid worker and the flex work location.

Exhibited at 'Tommorow?! Voices of future living' at WerkWarenHuis

Inspired by the personal habit of stacking all items to signal taking a break, this design explores whether a product can encourage others to organize their tools at the end of the day. Unlike traditional bags with multiple pockets for individual items, this design features a single large pocket that requires all tools to be removed or stored together at once, no quick take outs or ins. The bag is a large square that folds into a backpack, and its design ensures that it can only be opened by releasing the belt that holds it together. When the belt is undone, the entire bag unfolds and when the belt is fastened, the tools remain securely organized.

WerkWarenHuis is known for it’s cultural impact, including their numerous event. By repurposing the event banners designed for these occasions, the bag gains a distinctive, creative appearance and reflects Werkwarenhuis's identity. The material is ideal for this bag: it's durable for everyday use, waterproof for frequent travel, flexible and sturdy enough to maintain the bag's shape while providing structure.

Highlighting the process of creating the bag has always been a key aspect of the design approach. That’s why the banner’s corners and metal rings are incorporated into the design, preserving elements from its previous life as a nod to its origins.
