Ergonomic Tableware
Redesigning mealtime for those in discomfort; A modern take on ergonomic tableware.
For most people, enjoying a meal is a simple, everyday activity. However, for those with physical disabilities or elderly individuals, it can be more challenging. Many feel self-conscious and uncomfortable while eating, as if others are always watching them struggle. To make things easier, they often have to use unattractive plastic aids, which only adds to their discomfort.
The goal is to change this. By creating modern, contemporary tableware that includes easy-to-use ergonomic features, this design allows people to enjoy their meals comfortably and confidently. It offers them the chance to dine without worry, focusing on the experience rather than their limitations.
Graduation project Sintlucas
Exhibited at the Graduation Expo Sintlucas
The design for this project began unexpectedly with a simple paper model. By using the old technique of cutting a circle to form a cone, an upright edge naturally emerged. This edge helps guide food onto a fork without needing to use a knife for the non-ergonomic pushing motion, making it easier for those with limited mobility.
The soup bowl features inward and outward corners that allow for easy drinking, similar to how children squeeze the corners of a juice box to take a sip. These thoughtful details combine functionality with a sleek design, making the dining experience both practical and stylish.
